The start of River City Futsal came with a bang, after our mens squad wreaked havoc over Lions FC in the opening round of the Southern Cross Futsal League.
Both sides started the game quite evenly with the scored locked at 0-0 after six minutes. That was soon to change after Lions GK brought down Daniel Hearn inside the D. The resulting spot kick was calmed converted by Dan Bond.
River City would double their lead just moments later after Matt Sciacca intercepted a Lions ball, ran the length of the court and slotted it past the keeper.
With six minutes to go into the half, Matt Pickham added another to River City's tally after a well worked routine saw him free on the left side with an easy one-on-one.
To close out the half, Dan Bond grabbed his second of the day after a full court textbook play made it 4-0 to the home side.
The second half continued the same as the first with River City scoring yet another goal. Kai Warren this time adding his name to the score sheet after receiving a back post tap-in after a rapid counter attack.
With still 15 minutes to play, Lions grabbed a goal back through Harry Christie.
The hopes of a comeback were short lived after a goalkeeping error added Daniel Hearn's name to the list.
Daniel Hearn got a brace soon after when Jack Robertson played a pin point pass into Dan Bond's feet who calmly played the ball to free running Hearn to put past the keeper.
River City Futsal's opening day wasn't finished yet. The newly formed club added an either goal in the dying minutes of the game. A near identical goal to the last, Robertson played a brilliant ball into Bond's feet, laid off to Pickham to make it 8 - 1.
